US: Derek Chauvin Sentenced To Maximum 40 Years Over Death Of George Floyd

On Tuesday April 20, a court in Minnesota has declared Chauvin is given a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

In May 2020, Derek Chauvin, 45, was filmed kneeling on George Floyd’s neck.

The record lasted more than nine minutes during his arrest

Floyd died and the widely watched footage sparked worldwide protests against racism and excessive use of force by police.

Chauvin was found guilty on three charges: second-degree murder, third-degree murder and manslaughter.


On Tuesday April 20, a court in Minnesota has giving Chauvin a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison.

Third-degree murder is punishable by up to 25 years in prison. Second-degree manslaughter is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.


By rights, Chauvin is also expected to appeal against the verdict if he wishes
