Sudan Crisis: Rival Generals Initiate 8 Days Ceasefire



Regarding the chaos plaquing Sudan, the army and the Rapid Support Forces have settled for a truce from which May 4 to 11, 2023.

The strive for meditation was made public by the South Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAE) in Juba On Tuesday, May 2, 2023.

Information gathered says the decision to hold talks was arrived at by President Salva Kiir on behalf of the regional organization, IGAD, due to the ongoing Sudanese crisis.

After phone call exchanges with the rival generals al-Burhan and Hemedti, respectively at the head of the regular army and the paramilitaries, President Salva Kiir was able to secure a truce from May 4 to May 11.

Equally, the belligerents have agreed to “appoint their representatives for peace talks to be held in a place of their choice”.

Statistics from the United Nations says about 500 people have been killed while thousands have fled to Chad and the Central African Republic since the war broke out on April 15, 2023.
