Facebook has just announced it changed its name from FACEBOOK to META
The change, according to reports, is part of a strategic shift to emphasize the development of its interest in the virtual world and represent all that the company has to offer
The announcement was made by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Thursday during the company’s annual hardware event. The event equally talked about products like the Portal video devices and Oculus headsets.
It’s a total rebrand for Facebook
Meta comes barely weeks after the company faced a shutdown across the world
“From now on, we’re going to be the metaverse first. Not Facebook first,” Mark Zuckerberg said in his keynote address.
“Facebook is off for the most used products in the world. But increasingly, it doesn’t encompass everything that we do.
Right now, our brand is so tightly linked to one product that it can’t possibly represent everything we are doing.”
On social media, the company added that while its front name is changing, its app names remain thesame
“The names of the apps that we build—Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp—will remain the same” the official Facebook’s twitter handle clarified
