The Chairman of the Social Democratic Front died in Yaounde during the late hours of Monday, June 12, 2023 at the age of 82 after a long illness.
The main opposition leader founded the SDF, an opposition party in 1990 and was elected National Chairman of the party during its First Ordinary National Convention in Bamenda in May 1992.
Few days ago, Fru Ndi announced that he was going to step down as leader of the party at the next congress.
Fru Ndi will be remembered for his fearlessness in founding the nation’s first opposition party, 10 years after Biya’s rise to power.
Fru Ndi was born in Baba II, near Bamenda in Cameroon’s then-North West Province.
He studied at the Lagos City College in 1957.
