Osih, Zama, Shewa: Who Is The Next Fru Ndi?

The Social Democratic Front Party (SDF) recently revealed a list of candidates contesting in the party’s upcoming elections.

The candidates were made known on October 17, 2023, a day after SDF’s press conference in Yaounde, Centre region of Cameroon.

The list released, comprised of 50 new positions within the party including the National President, Vice President, National Treasurer, and National Communication Secretary amongst others.

The party revealed that Joshua Osih, Godden Zama, and Shewa David are candidates that have been shortlisted to compete for the position of National President of the SDF.

Joshua Osih

Hon. Joshua Osih is currently the First National Vice President of the party who is vying to run as the new National Chairman of the party.

The 55-year-old was elected at SDF’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting which took place in Yaounde on Saturday, September 9, 2023.

His strong prowess within the SDF party puts him as a favourite contender for the political party’s top job. Though it had been echoed that Fru Ndi was grooming Osih to be his successor, Fru Ndi before his demise refuted the claims.

Osih is equally the traditional ruler of Madie Ngolo in the Toko Subdivision, Ndian Division of the South West Region – a position many believe makes him fit as a good leader. Given his bilingual nature, observers think he’s going to be good fit for the position.

Shewa David

Shewa David equally announced his candidature for the position of national chairman of the opposition Social Democratic Front (SDF) on Friday, August 18, 2023, during a press conference held in Yaounde.

He currently serves as SDF Divisional coordinator of the Dungan Mantung Division. He has been in the political game for over a decade and has succeeded in gathering a huge influence around him in the political space.

Born on June 20, 1985, Shewa ran for parliament in the Dungan Mantung Division in 2013 but was luck was not on his side. Given this, many think he is going to be a tough wall for Joshua and Zama to crack down in the electoral process.

Godden Zama

Godden Zama made his intentions known during a press conference on Saturday, August 5, 2023, in the seaside town of Limbe, South West region.

The 38-year-old charismatic and dynamic political analyst has been Limbe’s Electoral District Chairman for years. Observers see him as an exact replica of Fru Ndi given his down-to-earth, unbiased and uncompromising nature.

Ni John Fru Ndi died on June 12, 2023, and was officially laid to rest in his native Baba II village in Santa, Mezam division of the North West region, on July 29, 2023.

Before his death, he had showed willingness to step down as party chairman, opening the door to a new candidate at the helm.

Therefore, for the first time since the creation of the Social Democratic Front Party in 1990, there’s going to be a new Chairman from the party’s late founding father, Ni John Fru Ndi.

The cast will take place on Saturday, October 28 with observers keen to know who is going to occupy the party’s most prestigious post.
