Anthony Scaramucci has accepted the apology made by CNN after a retracted story of an investigation on a pre-inaugural meeting between he and head of Russian investment fund, Kirill Dmitriev.

Friday night, the story which was posted on the CNN website was removed and all links disabled. CNN has accepted the resignation of the three journalists involved. Thomas Frank who authored the story was among those who resigned together with Eric Lichtblau, assistant managing editor in CNN’s Washington bureau, and Lex Haris, head of the investigations unit.

The retracted story had been questioned both home and abroad. CNN said the story did not meet their editorial standard. It should have been posted without a quick check and balance. It reported that Scaramucci and Kirill Dmitriev both exchanged pleasantries and that the senate committee was looking to a January discussion between the two.

What is yet unclear is the exact thing that is incorrect about the story. The news organization however apologized to Anthony Scaramucci, the Trump associate who reports showed he was in a meeting.

Scaramucci tweeted that CNN “did the right thing. Classy move. Apology accepted. Everyone makes mistakes. Moving on”
