Two Chiefs Dismissed For Misinformation on The Death of 97 Fishermen in Bakassi.

Two chiefs have been dismissed by the Senior Divisional Officer for Ndian division, Mr Etambo Ashu for giving false information on the alleged killing of 97 Nigerian fishermen in the Bakassi peninsula.

It was reported that these 97 fishermen were killed some days ago when a Cameroonian paramilitary unit was enforcing a fishing levy.

Nigerian Interior Minister, Abdulrahman Dambazau had accused Cameroon of breaching the agreement to protect its citizens; but the Cameroonian government was yet to comment.

The Chiefs of Jabane 1 and Jabane 2 were dethroned indefinitely by the civil administrator. The issue had created a tense atmosphere between Cameroon and neighboring Nigeria as Nigeria accused Cameroon of not keeping to her agreement to protect the citizens of the peninsular.

While Cameroons communication minister Issa Tchiroma has struggled to prove a just course, the Nigerian government has debunked all claims of propaganda in the issue. Nigeria earlier last week summoned the Cameroonian ambassador to file a formal case on the issue.
