A stampede which occurred at the entrance of the Olembe Stadium has left 8 dead, government authorities have confirmed.
January 24, 2022, ahead of the football match between Cameroon and Comoros in the 16th round of the tournament, a mammoth crowd of fans flooded the stadium to watch
Things turned violent as fans fought their way to secure seats after announcement that entrance was now free for all
In a release from Cameroon’s ministry of communication, minister Emmanuel Sadi confirmed 8 people died, 7 were seriously injured and 31 slightly injured.
Bodies of the dead were rushed to the mortuary while injured persons were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment
In response, Cameroon’s President Paul Biya has addressed his condolences to the bereaved families
