Yaoundé, Cameroon – Saturday April 4, 2020
The mother never expected that she would welcome her baby without it inheriting the virus from her. But the pandemic reacted differently and spared it.
The her recent diagnosis of covid-19 altered her birthing plan and she gave birth at an isolation hospital.
Doctors successfully led her to give birth to the baby who tested negative on Saturday night April 4.
Cameroon’s minister of Public Health wrote about the birth:
“We welcomed this 11:12 pm, the first baby born to covid19 positive mother at the central hospital of Yaoundé.
Kudos to Dr. Yaneu and his team for this feat in an isolation unit”
In a later announcement, the baby was declared virus free
