As Cameroon joined the rest of the world to celebrate Christmas day yesterday December 25, celebrations turned sour for inhabitants of Ekombe Bonji in Kumba, South West Region.
At least three persons were killed in a shootout between Ambazonia fighters and government military.
MMI reported that one of the three persons killed was a three-year old Sunday school kid of PC Ekombe Bobji, killed by military stray bullets as they shot at random
“The village has been in pain and this put a halt to all Christmas celebrations and movements
After the shooting, people began to cry when they saw the bodies. Some people rushed to the scene but that was the end of all celebrations. Many people could not go out again or move freely as we were afraid” – an inhabitant told us
Since the start of the Anglophone crisis, the Ekombe Bonji local area has been a huge target for battles.
On October 29, 2018, more than half of the residents ran to the bushes to seek for refuge after Military stormed the village and set houses on fire.
That same day, a disabled man who could barely escape was shot dead.
The invasion occurred at about 3am while many were asleep
Big Ekombe is also known as Ekombe Bonji is in Mbonge Sub Division, situated few kilometres away from Mbonge Sub Division.
