Niger: UN Delegation Meets Authorities In Niamey

The United Nations (UN) has dispatched a mission to Niamey, led by the special representative of the United Nations secretary general for West Africa and the Sahel.

The delegation arrived on Friday, August 18 and met with the Prime Minister of the transition who assured that ousted president Mohamed Bazoum’s health was improving.

“Mohamed Bazoum is fine, he is being monitored and replenished.”

The junta equally condemned the “illegal and inhuman” economic sanctions of ECOWAS and international organizations.

The UN mission is continuing its consultations in Niamey this Saturday to try to find a way out of the crisis that started on July 26, 2023.

A move that comes after ECOWAS announced on Friday that it had already set the date for its military intervention to restore constitutional order in Niger.
