MINSEP Congratulates Embiid On 2023 NBA MVP Award Win



Cameroon’s Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Narcisse Mouelle Kombi has applauded Cameroonian born Joel Embiid on his National Basketball Association (NBA) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award title.

The congratulatory message to Embiid was contained in a communique sent out on May 3, a day after he clinched the game’s top individual accolade.

In the past two seasons, EmbiId had finished second in the award behind Nikola Jokic and was competing against Giannis Antetokounmpo and Denver Nuggets star Jokic to claim NBA’s MVP award.

He recorded 73 out of the 100 available first-place votes, Jokic had 15 while Antetokounmpo came third with 12 votes.

The 29-year-old averaged 33.1 points, 10.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 66 games this season.

Speaking to “Inside the NBA press” after being named MVP he said “I don’t even know where to start. It’s been a long time coming, a lot of hard work. I’ve been through a lot, and I’m not just talking about basketball… It feels good. I don’t know what to say. It’s amazing.”

Embiid began his basketball career at the age of 15 after playing volleyball and soccer back in Cameroon. He moved to the United States at the of 16 years and was spotted in a basketball camp.
