University of Buea: ASJUB Open Day Resurfaces After 6 Years Of Non-existence



After six years of non-existence, the department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) in the University of Buea has witnessed the Association of Student Journalists of the University of Buea (ASJUB) Open Day.

The event which took place on April 12, 2023, marked the 28th edition of it’s kind under the theme “Journalism and Mass Communication, a Spring Board to Entrepreneurship.”

This year’s occasion was chaired by the Head of Department of JMC, Dr. Lizzie Wantchami marked by the presence of student Journalists and ex-students of the department.

Speakers at the event included Mr. Kum Leonard, editor in Chief at My Media Prime, veteran Journalist Mr. Charlie Ndichia and the CEO at the Buea Institute of Technology, Mr. Benyella Njeko.



Students were advised to be creative, innovative, make proper use of this digital age and exploit social media to showcase thier skills.


The students expressed great satisfaction with knowledge acquired given that the event lastly took place in 2016.

The Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, JMC was founded in 1993 by late Prof. Enoh Tanjong.
