Atanga Nji Orders Investigation On Kamto’s Covid-19 Survival Fundraising

In the letter, Minister Atanga Nji Paul asked Louis Paul Motaze, Cameroon’s Finance Minister to instruct the National Agency for Financial Investigations (ANIF) to immediately open investigations on opposition leader Maurice Kamto’s fundraising initiative.He requested the Finance minister to freeze all funds collected under the survival initiative opened by the leader of Cameroon Renaissance Movement (CRM).ANIF is not the first financial institution coming under investigation by minister Paul Atanga Nji.Last week the minister asked Afriland First Bank to close any accounts opened by political party leaders to raise funds in the fight against Covid-19, describing fundraisings as illegal acts.On April 7, Paul Atanga Nji first published a communiqué suspending all private fundraising to fight against Coronavirus in Cameroon .The communiqué said organizations must seek authorisation from MINAT if they must do fundraising to combat Covid-19.He added that it is against the law for any private entity to raise funds in such a circumstance
