October 17 2017, The Lebialem Scene In Detail

October 17 in Menji, Lebialem, ARREYB sought to investigate the story and Spoke to an active member of the Peace delegation which tip-toed their way into the town on a mission sent by their boss.

Following reports of violence which escalated recently in Menji, headquarter of Lebialem, many varying reports have paraded social media.

An investigation by this reporter on ARREYB revealed that the delegation stole themselves into the town early morning on October 17 at about 2am to avoid a mass alert.

However, some activists confirmed to us that they knew of their arrival and were well informed.

Early that morning, bike riders rode through the town chanting “No meeting” at the top of their voices and tried to mobilize the population to come out and block the CPDM committee from having a smooth meeting.

Conscious of the danger, the delegation planned a secret meeting with some selected officials at the secret location which in fact started, and presided by Boniface Fobella of the Prime Minister’s office.

Our investigation further showed that it was the late arrival of Dr. Nkobena Fontem Boniface of the Presidency that sparked a prompt reaction and growing tension between the population and the armed forces.

In the course of the tussle, ARREYB is reliably informed that a certain Nkengfua Kenneth was affected and quickly rushed to the hospital while the delegation took cover as the angry population gradually became beyond control.

The victim has hurriedly taken to the hospital where we are yet to confirm state of his health condition.

The raging population also set the residence of the MP Foju on fire.

Contrary to reports on social media, ARREYB further learnt that Hon. Foju Bernard who is Member of Parliament of Lebialem stayed away from the meeting following a security warning and as a result, only got news of what transpired from his hideout.

The crowd then chased students from Seat Of Wisdom College, Fontem.

The “Peace delegation” was only escorted out of Lebialem through Dschang by heavily armed forces.
