Douala: Court Sentences Teacher Who Beat Pupil To Nine Months Imprison

A primary school teacher and his friend in Douala have been served with nine and six months of imprisonment respectively for administering unfair corporal punishment on a class six pupil.

Fabrice, the teacher and his colleague who joined him in beating the pupil about a month ago were charged Wednesday April 13 by the Court of first instance in Ndokoti, Douala

According to verdict of the court, they were found guilty and Fabrice was sentenced to nine months imprisonment while his colleague who filmed the act was given six months

They were also suspended from teaching and charged to pay the sum of 750, 000frs for liquidated damages

In March 2022, the same teacher of primary school Billongue in Douala was arrested, after a video of him pouring pepper on and beating a pupil went viral on social media

The 9 year old pupil who was identified as Isaac Kemogne was hospitalized and later discharged by medics.

The teacher’s institution acts as a guarantor for payment of their charges, while the victims have been given 10 days to appeal.
