Freed few days ago, victim of the 2014 Chibok arrest has revealed her experience while under Boko Haram custody. Naomi Adamu was one of the 220 school girls taken from the town Chibok in April 2014.
Adamu and her friend Sarah Samuel starting documenting their experience when they were given exercise books to write during Islamic study lessons. Her little diary shows an everyday experience in the Sambisa, Boko Haram’s remote forest base … Read excerpts of her experience below:
At Chibok, Before She was taken
“One boy said they should burn us all, and they (some of the other fighters) said: ‘No, let us take them with us to Sambisa. if we take them to Shekau (the group’s leader), he will know what to do’”
How they succeeded to write down the experience:
“We wrote it together. When one person got tired, she would give it to another person to continue,”
Once, a jihadists had given her a blade saying “cut off the girls’ heads, or lose your own” and she writes :
“We are begging them. We are crying. They said if next time we ran away, they are going to cut off our necks. They said you don’t want to be Muslim so we are going to burn you,”
Another time, they were almost burned, Adamu writes as published by Thomson Reuters Foundation.
She even worries about her close friend, Serah Samuel who is still under custody and married to one of the group’s militants.
“She got married because of no food, no water. Not everybody can survive that kind of thing. I feel pained … so pained. I’m still thinking about her.”
The Chibok affair has been one of the world’s most popular terrorist activities carried out that affirmed Boko Haram a world deadly terrorist group.
A first set of 21 were freed in October, later 82 and more than 100 girls remain in Boko Haram custody.
The group has killed over 20,000 people and displaced at least 2 million in an act that does not seem to be ending any time soon
