Yaounde: Another Journalist Murdered Gruesomely

According to revelations from her relatives, Sylvie was kidnapped by unidentified people on Saturday evening and her body discovered murdered in cold blood on Sunday April 7 at about 8:30 a.m.

The remains of a Yaounde-based journalist, Sylvie Louisette Ngo Yebel were discovered in Nsam district, Yaounde according to Paul Chouta.

The journalist was reportedly shot dead with visible traces of torture found on her body.

According to revelations from her relatives, Sylvie was kidnapped by unidentified people on Saturday evening and her body discovered murdered in cold blood on Sunday April 7 at about 8:30 a.m.

However, many wonder why an alert wasn’t raised after her kidnap; her body was discovered on Sunday but only publicly announced on Tuesday…where was her husband and his family members when the incident happened?

Sylvie had served as communications manager at Traffic, a company operating in the sustainable development sector. Before her assassination, she was in charge of communications within COMIFAC (Central African Forestry Commission).

His assassination brings back into lamplight the question of journalists security in Cameroon. Between January 2023 and April 2024, at least 4 journalists were killed mysteriously in Yaounde.

First, it was Arsène Salomon Mbami Zogo, popularly known as Martinez Zogo, a renowned journalist and director of the private station Amplitude FM, who was kidnapped and his dead body found five days after in front of a police station in Yaounde January 2023.

Exactly eleven days later, Jean-Jacques Ola Bebe, radio presenter and Orthodox priest, was discovered dead on February 2 near his home in the Mimboman neighbourhood in Yaounde allegedly shot dead by unidentified persons.

As if that was not enough, in May of the same year, a correspondent for the weekly The Advocate Newspaper, Anye Nde Nsoh was cowardly shot dead by alleged “armed terrorists” in Bamenda, capital of the North-West region.
