About five men have been killed by government forces in Ekona, Muyuka subdivision, South West region this Saturday, June 24, 2023.
Viral videos and photos from the scene have made rounds on the Internet showing the liveless bodies of the young men lying in a house – one of the victims seriously b*tchered on his jaw while others had bullets stocked into thier bodies.
“The guys were in a friend’s house, discussing and entertaining themselves. The military surrounded the house and shot them at close range. After k!lling them, some were b*tchered with axe,” a witness recounted.
“We do not know who they are or why they were shot,” another source revealed.
Aside the killings, the military also set several houses ablaze in the locality.
Meantime, the reason for such a heinous act remains unknown. Information have it that a news blog controlled by a separatist group speculated a military attack in Ekona on June 21, 2023.
Ekona has suffered one of the most deadliest clashes between government forces and separatist fighters since the start of the Anglophone crisis in 2016.
While hearts bleed, it should be recalled that it is not the first time government forces have been spotted molesting, killing and setting houses ablaze amidst the conflict.
